The Fig
•8 verses
A Meccan surah of 8 verses, At-Tin takes its name from the oaths by the fig and the olive, symbols of sacred lands (Palestine and Syria according to scholars of exegesis).
At-Tin affirms that Allah created mankind in the best form, but those who stray from the right path are reduced to the lowest of the low. Only virtuous believers receive an endless reward.
Explain to your child that Allah created them in the best form, and that this beauty is preserved through good deeds and good character.
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the fig and the olive1
And [by] Mount Sinai
And [by] this secure city [i.e., Makkah],
We have certainly created man in the best of stature;1
Then We return him to the lowest of the low,1
Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds, for they will have a reward uninterrupted.
So what yet causes you to deny the Recompense?1
Is not Allāh the most just of judges?
