الفلق

Al-Falaq

The Daybreak

5 verses

Context

A surah of 5 verses whose classification (Meccan or Medinan) is debated among scholars, Al-Falaq forms with An-Nas the two protective surahs (Al-Mu'awwidhatayn). The Prophet (peace be upon him) recited them every night for protection.

Main themes

Al-Falaq is an invocation seeking protection with the Lord of the daybreak against the evil of creatures, the darkness of the night, sorcery, and envy.

Learning tip

Establish the ritual of reciting Al-Falaq and An-Nas with your child every night at bedtime, blowing into their hands as the Prophet used to do.
