Context

A Medinan surah of 3 verses, An-Nasr is one of the last surahs revealed. It announces the final victory of Islam and the entry of people into the religion of Allah in multitudes.

Main themes

An-Nasr commands the Prophet to glorify Allah and seek His forgiveness upon victory, as the end of his mission approaches. It is a reminder of humility in success.

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

إِذَا جَآءَ نَصْرُ ٱللَّهِ وَٱلْفَتْحُ

When the victory of Allāh has come and the conquest,1

2
وَرَأَيْتَ ٱلنَّاسَ يَدْخُلُونَ فِى دِينِ ٱللَّهِ أَفْوَاجًا

And you see the people entering into the religion of Allāh in multitudes,

فَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ وَٱسْتَغْفِرْهُ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ تَوَّابًۢا

Then exalt [Him] with praise of your Lord and ask forgiveness of Him. Indeed, He is ever Accepting of Repentance.1
