The Opener
•7 verses
A Meccan surah consisting of 7 verses, Al-Fatiha is the first surah of the Quran. It is also called Umm al-Kitab (the Mother of the Book) because it encapsulates its essence. Its revelation is considered among the earliest, and it constitutes a pillar of every ritual prayer.
Al-Fatiha celebrates the praise of Allah, His mercy, and His sovereignty over the Day of Judgment. It expresses the request for guidance on the straight path and the imploration for divine help.
Start by having your child listen to Al-Fatiha daily, as its repetition in prayers makes it the most natural surah to memorize, even from the age of 3.
