The Calamity
•11 verses
A Meccan surah of 11 verses, Al-Qari'ah (the Striking Calamity) describes a terrifying event of the Day of Judgment when people will be scattered like moths.
Al-Qari'ah presents the weighing of deeds: those whose scale is heavy with good deeds will enjoy a pleasant life, while those whose scale is light will plunge into the Abyss.
Explain to your child the concept of the scale of deeds in a simple way: every good deed is a 'weight' that makes our scale heavier.
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The Striking Calamity -
What is the Striking Calamity?
And what can make you know what is the Striking Calamity?
It is the Day when people will be like moths, dispersed,1
And the mountains will be like wool, fluffed up.1
Then as for one whose scales are heavy [with good deeds],
He will be in a pleasant life.
But as for one whose scales are light,
His refuge1 will be an abyss.2
And what can make you know what that is?
It is a Fire, intensely hot.
